How to use AI for your career

If you've never used AI before, start here.

  1. 01

Open ChatGPT on your phone. The free version works. Sign up at chat.openai.com or download the app.

  2. 02

Take a clear photo of your resume with your phone camera.

  3. 03

Open a new chat. Upload the photo using the paperclip or plus icon.

  4. 04

Copy and paste one of the prompts below. Hit send.

  5. 05

Read what AI gives you. Ask follow-up questions. Tell it what to change. Treat it like a smart assistant, not a vending machine.

  6. 06

Never copy AI output word for word. Always rewrite it so it sounds like you.

The prompts

Copy. Paste. Use.

Each of these prompts does a specific job. Use them in order or jump to whichever one you need.

01

Find Your Best Job Titles

AI looks at your resume and tells you the 20 jobs you're most qualified for.

Act as a senior recruiter. Based on my resume, list the 20 job titles I am most qualified for. For each job title include: 1) Why I am a strong fit, 2) The exact ATS keywords recruiters scan for, 3) Required skills I already demonstrate, 4) Any skill gaps I should address.
02

Build Your Master Resume

One resume you can tailor for any job in 60 seconds.

Rewrite my resume into a master resume template I can quickly tailor for different job applications. Use the Google XYZ formula: Accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z. Remove weak phrasing and generic bullets. Eliminate red flags hiring managers notice in under 10 seconds. Optimize for ATS readability. Emphasize quantified impact, leadership, and measurable results. Make formatting clean and easy to customize.
03

Find Real Open Jobs

AI searches LinkedIn and Indeed and gives you a list of jobs that match you.

Go to LinkedIn and Indeed. Find all job postings that match these target job titles: [PASTE YOUR 20 JOB TITLES]. Search criteria: posted within 7 days, relevant to my experience level, remote or based in [LOCATION]. Create a spreadsheet with: company name, job title, posting link, match score 1-100, key ATS keywords, salary if available, required skills.
04

Tailor Your Resume for Each Job

A custom version of your resume for every job you apply to.

For every job in the spreadsheet, create a tailored version of my master resume based on the job description. Prioritize the exact ATS keywords from the posting. Reorder bullet points based on relevance. Rewrite bullets to maximize alignment. Preserve truth and factual accuracy. Increase keyword match without keyword stuffing.
05

Rank Your Best Shots

Find out which jobs you're most likely to land an interview for.

Rank all jobs by probability of interview success. Use: resume match quality, skill overlap, ATS compatibility, seniority alignment, industry relevance. Sort from highest to lowest probability.
06

Write the Cover Letter

Three short paragraphs. Why them. Why me. Let's talk.

Write me a cover letter for this job. Use this formula only. Paragraph 1: why them — something real about the company. Paragraph 2: why me — one specific story or skill that connects to what they need. Paragraph 3: let's talk — one sentence asking for a conversation. Keep it under 200 words. Sound like a real person.
07

Find the Hiring Manager

AI tells you who to actually contact and what to say.

For this job posting, tell me who the hiring manager likely is, how to find them on LinkedIn, and write me a short DM I can send that doesn't sound desperate or generic. The DM should open a real conversation, not pitch.
08

Practice the Interview

AI runs a real mock interview and tells you how to improve.

Run me through a mock interview for a [role] at a [type of company]. Ask the hard questions. Don't go easy on me. After each answer, tell me what was strong, what was weak, and how to make it better. Then ask the next question.

Bonus — Find Your Hidden Skills

Still figuring out what you want? Start here.

I'm going to tell you 4 things. Three things I'm good at. Three things people compliment me on. Three things I genuinely enjoy. Three things I never want to do again. Based on this, tell me: what kinds of jobs would I thrive in, what unique skills do I have that I'm undervaluing, and what's one industry I should look at that I haven't considered.

The truth about job searching

What nobody teaches you.

  • Applying online alone is the slowest way to get hired.
  • Walk in when you can.
  • DM hiring managers directly on LinkedIn.
  • Ask for warm introductions from people you know.
  • Follow up after 5 to 7 days. Then follow up again.
  • AI helps you do all of this faster and smarter, but the human part still wins jobs.

What AI can and can't do

Reality check.

AI does this brilliantly:

  • Resume optimization
  • ATS keyword matching
  • Finding open jobs
  • Drafting cover letters
  • Mock interview practice
  • Ranking opportunities

AI can't do this alone:

  • Submit hundreds of applications by itself
  • Solve CAPTCHAs
  • Handle two-factor logins
  • Beat every employer portal
  • Replace your human judgment

The winning combo is AI plus you. Better applications, not more of them.

More resources coming

This hub grows with you.
